Episode Notes

Jay and his mother were joined at the hip back then and still today even though Doris now lives on the west coast and he on the east.  Doris and Jay had a great understanding and mutual respect for each other. They had plenty of "she and I" moment Jay fondly recalls, when they would go shopping together over the weekend.

Doris was a single mom and worked as a Social Worker at the Bronx Court House.  Soon enough she found a job there for young Jay so as to keep him out of trouble and off the streets.  Jay had been a latch key kid, often on his own when he was younger and his mom didn't want him getting into trouble as he got older.

"Because there was no real 'dad' figure in  the home, family and friends often helped out to fill in as a father figure including  my Uncle Johnny," say Jones.  There were often many people willing to help Doris and her family because Doris was always helping others.

Doris was insistent that Jay from a young age, "treat others with respect, do the right thing, and be honest. My mom would always say "watch out for Karma."

Jay would hate to ever break his mother's heart. "I want to continue to make her proud. I want to keep helping others  like she helped so many struggling  families." Jay goes on to say "it's all about love."
